Fiammetta Salmoni, Director of the Italian Defence Industries Agency, accompanied by an institutional delegation, carried out an official visit to the “Lisova Polyana” Rehabilitation Center in Kyiv, one of Ukraine’s most advanced healthcare facilities specialized in treating the psychophysical consequences of war among soldiers and veterans.
The meeting with Kseniia Voznitsyna, Director of the Center, served as a platform for technical dialogue and in-depth discussion within the framework of AID’s humanitarian initiatives in cooperation with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).
During the visit, Kseniia Voznitsyna presented the Center’s clinical programmes focused on the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorders, post-concussion syndromes, and the rehabilitation of survivors of captivity, torture, and conflict-related sexual violence. The AID delegation visited the units dedicated to psychophysical rehabilitation and met the medical and psychological teams engaged in therapy and social reintegration programmes.
The meeting also explored opportunities for technical and healthcare cooperation between Ukrainian and Italian institutions, particularly through the Military Chemical Pharmaceutical Plant of Florence, within the framework of cooperation with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), which is already implementing the humanitarian project in support of the Odessa Regional Pediatric Hospital.
Kseniia Voznitsyna announced that the opening of a twin rehabilitation centre in Odessa is currently being planned, aimed at the recovery and reintegration of veterans and soldiers returning from the frontlines. The initiative was identified as a potential area of future collaboration between AID and AICS thanks to the support of Italian Ministry of Defence.
The visit reaffirmed the importance of Italy’s contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s healthcare system and laid the groundwork for new joint initiatives in support of military personnel and war victims, within a broader framework of solidarity and cooperation between Italy and Ukraine.
