On 13 January 2026 the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, Gen. C.A. Carmine Masiello, visited the Stabilimento Chimico Farmaceutico Militare di Firenze (SCMF), highlighting the facility’s growing strategic role within the national defense system.

The SCMF has become a key CBRN hub and a national anti-pandemic center, standing out as one of the flagship assets of the Defence Industries Agency (AID).

During the tour, General Masiello examined the aseptic filling department, where the cutting‑edge “Azzurra” machine, once fully certified by AIFA will enable the production of the plant’s patented auto-injectors, strengthening Italy’s strategic autonomy in the pharmaceutical-defense sector.

Maj. Gen. Giorgio Rainò and Brig. Gen. Massimo Boschetto, representing AID General Directorate, welcomed General Masiello – alongside Col. Arcangelo Moro, Director of the SCMF, and the plant’s workforce.

The visit comes at a pivotal moment for the facility. Over the past two years, the 2025–2027 Industrial Plan, presented by AID Director General Fiammetta Salmoni and approved by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, has driven a profound transformation. The Florence plant, once burdened by operational losses, has reasserted itself as a national center of excellence, launching strategic initiatives in innovation, cooperation, and development.
